ToggleA tropical setting for a British colonial wedding in Provence
Dreaming of a wedding that feels both elegant and exotic? A timeless escape where colonial charm meets Mediterranean lifestyle?
Welcome to Tropicana Lodge, tucked away in the heart of nature at the foot of Roquebrune’s iconic red rock, in the Var region of southern France.
This is where we imagined and brought to life a bold and joyful British colonial wedding in Provence — a styled shoot that perfectly reflects the spirit of our venue: chic, natural, and unapologetically worldly.
With palm trees, wrought iron furniture, a Franco-British couple and vibrant hues, this creative collaboration showcases everything we love in an intimate, refined and eco-friendly wedding in Provence.
Two Chloés, one vision
It all began with a creative spark between Photography by Chloé, a French-English photographer and true globe-trotter, and Tropicana Events — our unique tropical venue in the South of France (that’s me, Chloé, writing to you here!).
We met during a real wedding in our palm grove, and the idea for a British colonial wedding shoot in Provence emerged naturally.
From the start, we imagined a celebration based on three pillars:
- A colourful and elegant colonial chic atmosphere
- Subtle yet stylish British influences
- A tropical and intimate setting in the heart of Provence
It was a first for me to lead an editorial shoot from scratch, without a wedding planner at the helm. Our only common date was October 17 — Chloé crossed France in her van to reach our palm-filled paradise. After playing host to styled shoots inspired by Bali, Africa, Coachella, or Polynesia, we were ready to welcome the British colonial dream to Provence.
A dream team for a British & tropical vision
To bring this British colonial wedding in Provence to life, we invited Coralie from Oui by Madame Coco — a visionary stylist who loves breaking the rules.
Everything fell into place quickly, centered around a refined, vibrant moodboard:
- A vintage green wrought iron garden set, so British
- A bold palette of fuchsia pink and emerald green
- English tableware, a cheese tower, champagne coupe pyramid, and of course… our Franco-English couple, Jade & Jim
Between last-minute changes, new partners joining the project (thank you Émilie from Se dire Oui by Lilie for stepping in with grace after Pierrine from Épouse-moi !), and even a surprise videographer found at home… it was a whirlwind of challenges and joy.
Tropicana Lodge: the perfect setting for a colonial chic wedding
During a site visit with Coralie, it became clear that our Tropicana Lodge — new and full of promise — would be the perfect location.
With its wooden decks, palm-fringed pool, and luxury eco-lodges surrounded by lush greenery, it radiates the exact vibe of a British colonial wedding in Provence: eco-chic, intimate, relaxed.
Our styled shoot setting featured:
- Abundant tropical plants and towering palms
- A beautiful reception table beneath our Savannalodge reed hut
- An outdoor ceremony by the pool on our expansive terraces
- And a laid-back yet refined atmosphere, with champagne and tropical British charm
Everything was set for a perfect day — except the still-missing videographer and some capricious weather. But as often in Provence, the sun made its grand entrance just in time.
October 24: Sunshine, laughter, and colonial spirit
October 24 was our only shared date — so we crossed our fingers for sunshine. Chloé arrived the day before in her van, feverish but determined. On the big day, she photographed beautifully despite being unwell. Coralie styled with humour and flair, Émilie coordinated with grace, Jade & Jim were pampered and shot… and I handled logistics.
A stroke of luck: my cousin Olivier (musician by trade, budding videographer by heart) stopped by on his way to a wedding in Tuscany. Suddenly — we had our filmmaker!
The day was everything we love at Tropicana Lodge: collaborative, joyful, a little wild, and totally unique. Jim and Olivier (a.k.a. Bruno Mars — inside joke!) even played music to set the mood. And for the record, the sun really helped us that day because from October 25th, it was deluge!

What is a British colonial wedding?
A British colonial wedding draws inspiration from vintage English elegance and the romantic spirit of faraway lands. It combines:
- vintage furniture (wrought iron, wood, linen),
- fine English china and antique decor,
- lush flowers and tropical greenery,
- chic outfits and rich color palettes (emerald, ivory, fuchsia)…
This aesthetic evokes a sense of travel, timeless refinement and the beauty of contrast.
